Fight Night Saint-Tropez 4 took place last night in France and featured a main event bout between Kickboxing legend Jerome Le Banner and American Karl Roberson. Le Banner was originally scheduled to fight Maurice Jackson, but Roberson stepped in on short notice.

The first round was a feeling out process between the two, but Le Banner controlled the ring. The controversy came in the second round when with a little over a minute left in the second round Roberson landed a left hand that sent Le Banner to the canvas. Le Banner got up immediately and walked to the corner as if he was expecting an 8 count from the referee, but no count from the referee came and the fight continued. Le Banner went on the attack and was pressuring Roberson towards the ropes, but with less than 30 seconds left in the round another left hand from Roberson sent Le Banner to the canvas. The referee proceeded with a slow count, it took Le Banner 10 seconds just to get up off the canvas, then he walked to the ropes as the referee proceeded with his slow count and then had Le Banner raise his hands and let the fight continue. Over 20 seconds had passed by the time that Le Banner was ready to fight again. What should have been a knockout victory for Roberson didn't happen and the fight continued with the second round ending as soon as the fight was resumed.

The remainder of the fight was close with each man pressing the action at different points. Roberson came out aggressive to start the third round, likely sensing Le Banner was hurt, while Le Banner came out aggressive in the fifth round with the fourth round being pretty even between the two. In the end the judges awarded Le Banner the decision victory.

In other action it was not a good night for Glory veterans. Yohan Lidon scored a third round (T)KO over Jonathan Oliveira, Alexei Papin scored a decision over Danyo Ilunga, and Alexander Vezhevaov defeated Filip Verlinden by decision.

All of the fights but one went the distance. In the 176 lb + (80 kg +) weight class Roman Kryklia scored a first round (T)KO over Claudiu Istrate due to three knockdowns in one round. Londt is currently on a four fight win streak, he was scheduled to face Hari in 2014, but the fight fell through. He doesn't seem to have any type of bad blood toward Hari and sounds focused on the task at hand.

Artem Golik: You have a fight coming up with Badr Hari, how do you feel about the fight?

Isamel Londt: The fight against Badr Hari is a honour for me.

Artem Golik: How improtant is the fight with Badr Hari for you?

Ismael Londt: For me every opponent is important, but Badr Hari is in my humble opinion one of the best Kickboxers of the world. He is a top class fighter. It is a great honour to fight Badr Hari in Grozny and I would like to thank Mr. President Ramzan Khadyrov, Akhmat Fight Club and the people of Chechnya!

Artem Golik: Badr Hari has won 92 of 105 fights by the way of KO - do you worry about that?

Isamel Londt: The fight record of Hari is surely amazing, but I don't worry because a KO can happen in any fight and it always is spectacular for the fans.

Artem Golik: What do you think about his shape?

Ismael Londt: Hari is always in a good shape that's why he is top-class. I suppose he will be in fantastic shape for this fight.

Artem Golik: How about your shape coming into this fight?

Ismael Londt: My shape is the same like in any fight and I have the same preparation like always. The fight against Badr Hari is an honour, but preparation is as usual.

Artem Golik: Do you have anything special planned for this fight with Hari, are you looking for a knockout?

Ismael Londt: I don't want to talk about my plans and make any predictions for the fight. I leave that to the media and colleagues (according to them I have NO chance) and kickboxing fans all over the world.

Artem Golik: Do you have a message for Badr Hari?

Ismael Londt: I wish Badr Hari and his team good luck. May the best man win!

Gogokhia is currently on a six fight win streak, which includes wins over Chris Ngimbi, Warren Stevelmans, and Alessandro Campagna. Gogokhia has also recorded wins over Sittichai Sitsongpeenong and Erkan Varol in his career. Sadeghi Pari is an experience fighters who has been in the ring with the likes of Marco Pique, and Fadi Merza.

Ngimbi has hit a rough patch in his career having lost eight of his last ten bouts. Although those fights came against opposition like Andy Souwer, Artur Kyshenko, and Gregory Choplin. In need of a win to get back on track this fight is crucial for Ngimbi.

The fight will be Alexandre's first since his win at Legacy Kickboxing 1 in January. After some inactivity he seems to have a few fights lined up now as he is also expected to fight at Venum Victory World Series in Panama this coming October. Alexandre will enter the fight having won his last 3 bouts.

Pashporin has been in the ring with some great fighters, although the big win to set him apart on the world stage still eludes him. He has gone the distance with Buakaw and Andrei Kulebin, but both times came up short losing decision to them. A win over a well respected fighter like Alexandre would be a great career boost. Glory 23 Fight Breakdown: Nieky Holzken vs. Raymond Daniels

$

0

Nieky Holzken has long been considered the best striker in his weight class, despite not having the Glory Championship around his waist. Raymond Daniels is a fan favorite because of his flashy fighting style that has yielded some amazing knockouts. At Glory 23 one of these two will be crowned the new Glory Welterweight Champion.

The pair has fought before in the finals of the Glory 19 Welterweight Contenders Tournament. It was a one sided bout in favor of Holzken. From the start of the fight it was clear Holzken was looking to score a stoppage, he was very aggressive and didn’t look to give Daniels any room. He knocked Daniels down several times in the bout eventually scoring a third round stoppage.

Holzken is very adaptable in the ring. He can hang bag and pick you apart with his accuracy or he can press the action and punish you with his fluid combinations. Pressuring Daniels and not giving him room to throw any of his spinning kicks seems to be the best strategy here. Expect to see Holzken come out as aggressive as he did the first time. He will attack the body early like he did in their first bout and look to wear Daniels down.

Daniels is a solid fighter but seems to go to the well too much. It is safe to assume he will be throwing multiple spinning kicks throughout the fight, which he has proven he can land with lethal consequences. If Holzken keeps the pressure on him it will make it more difficult to throw the spinning kicks effectively, however, it won’t stop him from attempting them as proven in their first bout. Daniels needs to use all his tools, meaning he needs to let his hands go a lot more and using them to set up his kicks.

This fight seems like it is set to be a repeat of their first encounter, it is hard to picture a lot changing in just a few months. Daniels is game, but Holzken is likely going to use his combinations to attack the head and body to wear down Daniels. It is a fight and anything can happen, but for Holzken to get caught with a spinning heel kick seems unlikely.

You can view their first bout below.

Karl Roberson talks controversial loss to Jerome Le Banner

Karl Roberson was called on short notice to fight Kickboxing legend Jerome Le Banner at Fight Night Saint-Tropez 4 on August 4th in Saint-Tropez, France. Roberson was making his Kickboxing debut against one of the biggest legends in Kickboxing. The deck was definitely stacked in his favor, he was fighting Le Banner in his home country of France and he was taking the fight on short notice, and it was his pro Kickboxing debut against a fighter with over 100 fights to his name.

Roberson was supposed to be a sacrificial lamb for Le Banner to go out on top as his career was coming to and end, but Roberson did the unthinkable. He knocked the legend out in the second round, the only problem was that despite knocking him out he ended up losing a decision. How you might ask? Well after knocking down Le Banner in the second round the referee proceeded with a slow count that allowed Le Banner about 30 seconds to recover. What should have been a knockout victory for Roberson was snatched from him by horrendous refereeing.

We were able to catch up with Roberson after returning home from the trip and talk about the fight. You can also see the video of fight at this link.

MTA: You took this fight on short notice, how did it come to be?

Karl Roberson: I took the fight on short notice, my coach got a call from our friend Eddie Marini asking if I would take a fight with JLB in a week.

MTA: What were your thoughts when you were told it was against Jerome Le Banner?

Karl Roberson: My first response is lets do it I get to fight some one I look up to and watched as I came up in the sport. Lets do it .

MTA: Did you have a specific game plan going into the fight since it was short notice?

Karl Roberson: Yea we watched a few of his most recent fights to see if we can find anything. There wasn't that much, I just came off a win in MMA at 185 pounds a week earlier so I was in shape so we came up with a move and heavy counter punches game plan.

MTA: You went to France and fought a legend in Jerome Le Banner and pretty much got a raw deal. First off it seemed like you knocked him down in the second round but the ref did not give him a count. Do you think it was a knockdown?

Karl Roberson: The first time he dropped he didn't get a count which through me off a lil because I know I connected clean. So there I knew I had to really go for it.

MTA: When you actually knocked him out and the referee took the really long count what was going through your mind?

Karl Roberson: When I knocked him out, I'm just waiting for the count and waiting thinking what's taking him so long so now I'm just in a lets go mode.

MTA: After you saw that happen did that change your mind on how you had to approach the remainder of the fight?

Karl Roberson: So the bell rang and coach says keep the same game plan don't change keep moving and sticking.

MTA: Despite you not getting the KO you deserved, did you think you did enough to win on the judges score cards?

Karl Roberson: At the end of the fight despite not getting the KO I still think I did enough to win connected more and had more and had more significant strikes.

MTA: Were you able to talk to the promoters about the bad refereeing after the fight and if so how did that go?

Karl Roberson: I wasn't able to talk to judges after the fight.

MTA: Fans probably weren't familiar with you before this fight but they should be now. Can you give us a little background on your fight history, how did you start, your current record, where you train etc?

Karl Roberson: I'm 24 and started training wen I was 13, I had a couple amateur boxing fights but didn't love it. Went looking for something different then found Brian Wright and from there it was history. I was undefeated in amateur MMA and got the light heavyweight belt. I went pro and now I'm undefeated as a pro and going hard. My kickboxing pro debut was against JLB so I guess I'm 0-1 in Kickboxing.

MTA: When can we expect to see you fight again?

Karl Roberson: I'll be stepping back in the cage in Atlantic City on September 25 for rROC and waiting on a call for my next Kickboxing fight.

MTA: Any words for your supporters?

Karl Roberson: I want thank all my fans for the love and support you have no Idea how it feels to step in that ring/cage knowing you have so many people that have your back. Thank you n love you all.

Glory 23 Results: Nieky Holzken stops Raymond Daniels to win Glory Welterweight Title

Glory 23 took place tonight at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The night's main event featured Nieky Holzken vs. Raymond Daniels for the Glory Welterweight Championship. The fight was a re-match from their Glory 19 bout in which Holzken defeated Daniels by third round (T)KO.

Daniels came out aggressive to start the bout, while Holzken seemed content with picking his shots in the first round. In the second round Holzken began to get a little more aggressive and stalk Daniels. Both fighters were effective mixing their strikes. Daniels showed a more complete arsenal than he had done previously in his Glory fights, while Holzken was accurate with his strikes as usual connecting with low kicks and working the body with punches. In the third round Holzken came out as the aggressor and was able to land a few solid punches and a knee as he cornered Daniels. The knee opened a massive cut on Daniels left eye, Holzken went in for the kill and unloaded punches to the head and body before backing away. Referee John McCarthy moved in and the fight was stopped immediately. The cut was on the eye lid of Daniels, it was a good stoppage by McCarthy as some serious damage could have occurred if the fight had continued. With the stoppage Holzken captured the Glory Welterweight Championship and has now won his last eight fights, with six of those wins coming by (T)KO.

In the middleweight tournament Dustin Jacoby punched his way to victory, winning both of his bouts by stoppage. In the tournament semi-final he stopped Ariel Sepulveda with one second left in the first round and in the tournament final he stopped Casey Greene with strikes in the second round. The tournament victory is huge for Jacoby, he entered Glory after winning a Road to Glory tournament on less than 24 hours notice. He scored three knockouts in the Road to Glory tournament which was also his Kickboxing debut, but was immediately put in the ring with fighters that had a lot more experience and it showed. Coming into the tournament Jacoby had lost his last four fights. Hopefully Jacoby can build on the tournament win and climb back up the Glory ladder.

Xavier Vigney had stiff test in Daniel Sam at Glory 23. Vigney was coming off having won the heavyweight tournament at Glory 21 and had a lot of eyes on him this bout. He continued his momentum against Sam. Vigney pushed the pace and was successful through out the fight in pressuring Sam and connecting with low kicks and punches. The judges awarded a split decision victory to Vigney. The win is easily the biggest of Vigney's career to date.

Origins 7 Results: Yodsanklai takes decision over Tentori

Origins 7 took place this past weekend in Perth, Australia. The main event featured Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Marco Tentori

Tentori came out aggressive in the bout, throwing strikes in volume. Yodsanklai didn't seem affected by the volume of strikes that were thrown his way as he calmly held the center of the ring and stalked Tentori. Yodsanklai started to pick up his output in the second round and both fighters were showing a diverse arsenal as they mixed in their kicks, punches, knees and elbows together.

The third round is when Yodsanklai really began to take control despite Tentori throwing more volume. Yodsanklai defended well from most of Tentori's strikes, and when he did connect they didn't seem to affect Yodanklai. In the fourth round a well placed elbow opened up a cut over Tentori's right eye, after Yodsanklai noticed this he targeted the eye a bit more.

Tentori was still game in the final round until with less than a minute to go an elbow from Yodsanklai hurt Tentori, as he tried to back away Yodsanklai followed with a knee and Tentori dropped to his knees and received an 8-count from the referee. Tentori was able to make it to the end of the fight in a valiant effort, but the judges awarded Yodsanklai a unanimous decision. Also, I want to announce that from this moment, for the future events, we will have two international judges outside of the host-country and an international supervisor", said Superkombat CEO, Eduard Irimia.

Neither fighter seems to shy away from the rematch.

"Wasn't the worst decision ever, but I think I was the winner of the fight. I'm very delighted because Superkombat ordered the rematch and that proves a lot. I cannot tell you now how happy I am for that. Next time I will knock-out Filip" responded Arslan.

"I'm waiting for him, no matter when the fight will happen. I'm better than him and I will prove it again" replied Filip.
